The Importance of Gay Bars

By Lambda Archives of San Diego (other events)

Thursday, June 8 2017 7:00 PM 9:00 PM PDT

ABOUT ABOUT

As we approach the first anniversary of the Pulse nightclub tragedy in Orlando, Out at the Archives will take a look at the important place gay bars have had in the LGBTQ community. Before there were Centers, Prides or coming out groups, there were the bars--they filled all of the functions and as rallying points and meeting sites for many of the institutions we now take for granted.

A panel of bar owners and managers will talk about their part in our history. The panel will be moderated by Big Mike Phillips, a local activist who has worked in many of San Diego's bars and used his role to organize many fundraisers and community events.

Hosted by RICH'S San Diego - 1051 University Ave.

Doors open at 6:00PM. Seating is limited, so pre-purchase your ticket online to reserve a seat. Arrive early to enjoy a cocktail; a portion of all sales benefit the Archives.

$10* for Nonmembers.

Generously sponsored by Robert Hubbard of MassMutual Financial Group
